The Conegliano Valdobbiadene
Today, Prosecco is one of the best-known and most appreciated sparkling wines in the world: it has become an icon of Italian style. Its story began in the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, in the Veneto Region of north-eastern Italy, situated some 50 km from Venice and 100 km from the Dolomites. This zone still produces the highest quality, as confirmed by this region’s status as a D.O.C.G. (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin). Wine production in this area dates back to the remote past and, over the centuries, man has continued to modify the morphology of the landscape in favour of vineyards, creating scenery so unique that the region is now a candidate to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
